July 1,1982 Atkinson Graphic GRAVESIDE RITES HELD FOR OLIVE SKRDLA, 85
Graveside services were held Fri, June 25 at Woodlawn Cem, Atkinson, for Mrs Olive Skrdla, 85, who died June 22. Since 1975, she had lived at Tabitha Home in Lincoln.
Mrs Skrdla was the widow of the late Frank E Skrdla who owned Skrdla Motor Co in Atkinson. She worked with her husband until they moved to their ranch in the Phoenix area in 1949.
She was born in Atkinson on May 11,1897, the youngest child of George and Mary Beebe Blake. She attended Wayne State Teachers College after her graduation from Atkinson High School and taught elementary school in Tilden until her marriage to Frank Skrdla on Feb 12,1919.
In Atkinson she served on the school board and began her lifelong interest in flowers, evidenced by the number of specimen iris she raised for many years. She became qualified to judge flower shows when there were few such judges in Nebr, and for several years judged shows at county fairs and exhibits as far away as Texas.
Mrs Skrdla was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, American Iris Society, Audubon Society and state and local garden clubs, including the Atkinson Civic Improvement Garden Club. She was a member of PEO and aided in the organization of the chapter in O’Neill where the couple lived after they retired from the ranch.
She is survived by her son, Blake, and two grandchildren, Robert and Merri.
