Subject: [NJ-MEMORIES-L] re: McDonalds Beach and Valley Spring Lake on Route 23

Where there used to be no less than 7 privately owned open to the
public lakes and picnic areas along Route 23 from Wayne to Butler, none are
in business anymore.

Sun Tan Lake in Riverdale was the last to close. It was the site of
many large picnics over the years, most notably were those for Newark Mayor
Gibson which attracted 25,000 people each time. Sun Tan is now Riverdale
Plaza with a BJ's (open), Staples (opening next month) and Home Depot (under
construction).

McDonald's in Pompton Plains was supposed to become an office
complex but presently is just overgrown with weeds. Valley Spring Lake in
Riverdale has been considered for condos but nothing definite yet. Terrace
Lake in Butler has been approved for 250 condos.

Speaking of Valley Spring, how many know about its connection with
Watergate?
