Hi
I have seen references that Sarah Goodwin and Elizabeth Goodwin are
sisters. I have also seen references stating that Matthew Nutter's first
wife was Hannah (Miller ?), but I really don't know if this is correct.
Maybe someone else can confirm that.
I descend from Matthew and Elizabeth's son, William who married Mary
Starr. I don't have much concerning the Goodwins except that her father
was Matthew and they were from Mass. I am not even sure if the
Nutter/Goodwin connection occurred in DE or in WV. For some reason, I was
under the impression that Sarah and Thomas married in DE and Matthew and
Elizabeth married in VA (or WV). I have tried to find references to any
Goodwin's in Sussex Co DE in the 1790 census, but had no luck. There were
some in Kent Co which is just north of Sussex, but I don't know if there is
a connection.
As of now, I don't know for sure who the WV Nutter's parents were, but
still lean toward the descendents Christopher Nutter's oldest son, John
(who migrated to Sussex Co DE from Somerset Co MD (now Wicomico)). I live
about an hour from the DE Archives, but have still not made it there.
Unfortunatly, they do not have Saturday hours (at my last check), but still
want to get up there. Maybe land records, etc from DE will shed some
light. There sure seems to be no mention of the WV Nutter's in the colonial
MD archives. Most of these records are available on the Nutter page.
There is no mention of John Huett Nutter having a son named Thomas or any
reason to believe that Matthew, his son born in 1737, ever survived to
adulthood.
I have found some information on the Starr family (married into the
William Nutter line) on some FTM disks that take this line back several
generations. Of course these sources are not always accurate, but a couple
did seem to have some fairly reliable sources documented. If anyone is
interested in this line, I will be happy to share what I found.
In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any info on the Goodwin line also.
