I too am verifying information as I find it and am able, but I also do not
want to with hold possible clues for others searching the same lines so I
put it out there and have the sources listed for all I have verified my self
and all the conflicting information too, and if people read the sources and
notes, they will know that.
It does not make sense to me to withhold information that might knock down a
brick wall of 20 years standing if some little snippet of information will
help some one knock it down.
Genealogies and family histories never end, so what I get from all of you is
that if you have not proved it, you do not want any one else to have the
opportunity to do so before you do.
Maybe my attitude is skewed because I know I have only a short time to live
and I want my children, grandchildren, cousins; etc: to have as much
information to work with as I could compile so that they can continue my
work if they choose in later years, without our ancestors being held for
ransom by companies that charge $50, for CD's that have thousand of Olivet
and Mt. Olivet cemetery listings and no Olivet people.
I have received incorrect information on my Vosburgh line from others, but
then was able to verify by books published during the life time of these
people and their children who the correct parents were. Should I with hold
the name of the parents of my Vosburgh 5th great grandmother, as noted in
several 1800's era books because I can not find her baptism to "Prove" she
is their daughter?
I encourage people to correct my information, add to it and if they want
anything removed of their work, I do it!
I do not understand this mind set at all. Give me all the scolding you
want, but I will continue to make all I have available to others so long as
it helps them find a person and where to look for the verification. When it
is published with a copyright, then it will be all proven, meanwhile I will
contiune to up date sources and verifications as I get them and let the rest
be clues for my self and others while we continue adding the branches of my
family trees.
This whole question makes me wonder how many people have the clue that will
help me find two missing generations of deOllivette,Ollivett, Olivet, Olivit
people and have not made it available so I can help with the search because
it is not verified by ancient documentation, or because it is a slight
marriage tie that some one did not want to bother looking deeper into, or
because it is such an unsual name some one has spelled it Oliver, Olivent,
Olivant.
There, I have said my peace and I fell better and now all of you can be mad
at me, but I will survive so long as God sees fit!
Diane Cassedy Ollivett-Miles
