We wrote to the NYC Archives for a birth record which they were unable to
locate. We need more suggestions. Can anyone advise us?

Lucie J. Durant, age 1, is listed on the 1880 Census. Parents were
Gouverneur and Carrie Durant, ages 30 and 26, respectively. He worked as a
stevedore. They lived on 3rd Avenue around 142nd or 143rd St. or 149th St.
(The record is not completely legible.)

The Archives searched birth records for Manhattan for 1879 and 1880. Is
there somewhere else we should inquire? Was this area part of Manhattan in
1880?

We live in Oklahoma and aren't very familiar with NYC.

Lucie was David's gr-grandmother.
