When you say "I can't seem to find anything on ship passenger lists" I have
the suspicion you are expecting to find something on the web. Forget it -
probably less than 1% of passenger arrivals during your time frame of
interest will be available there.
There are federal indexes to passenger arrivals 1820-1846 available
on microfilm. Immigrants from Ireland are privately indexed 1847-1851
in the hardbound "The Famine Immigrants", ed by Ira Glazier et al.
This latter is also available on CD from Genealogy.com. Otherwise
you'll just have to search the many microfilms of passenger arrivals
for 1872. The microfilms are available at Family History Centers and
at the main office and some branches of the National Archives.
