Subject: [NYFingerLakes] A brick wall that needs to be solved
Date: Sat, 28 Aug 1999 00:42:48 EDT
Dear Finger Lakes Region researchers: This is the story of an elusive family
that resided somewhere in NY.
I am investigating the family of Lillian M. Duncan Lovell. She was born
9/17/1865. Her father was George Sibla Duncan. Lillian was born in Arcadia
Wayne County New York according to her son's birth records. Her mother's name
may have been Emma Jane Fordo according to the following web site.
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/d/e/n/Michael-D-Dennis/COL4-0002.html
The person who was maintaining this web site is now deceased. Anyway, I
have looked all over for the name Fordo and it is non-existant. So I started
to search for variations. And one day, I found the name George Fordon on the
Ontario Wayne county web site. What I realized was that the name I was
looking for was probably Fordon not Fordo. So I am starting to send out
messages to anyone who may be searching the name Fordon.
Another sister was Marguerite was born in NY in 1891. They may have been in
Elmira at the time. Also George Duncan was widowed in 1900 therefore Emma
Jane Fordo/Fordon died between 1891 and 1900 unless Marguerite was from
another spouse.
Heres another puzzle. I haven't been successful in finding Emma Jane buried
in NY.
Any clues on how to find these people in the census of 1870, 1880 and 1890?
I would appreciate any help on this! Sandy Lovell
