Hi,
It was very kind to offer look-ups from these books, but I know that
Mary Jackson (a distant cousin of mine) has not given her permission for
her books to be put on-line, nor has she given permission for look-ups to
be done from them.
(I checked with her myself.)
The books mentioned above were done by Mary Jackson in 1993 and are
currently available to buy from Mary or else from Heritage Books and
also the local historical societies for these counties (books were done for
Schuyler, Tompkins & also Seneca). Mary put a lot of effort into these, as
you can imagine, and still hopes to sell some of the remaining copies. You
can get them for around $15 plus shipping (maybe less, if ordered
directly from Mary herself...email )- which seems pretty
reasonable. (That's about the same price as a single death certificate
search). With such a recent publication, a look-up may infringe on the
copyright. Generally speaking, copyright runs out 75 years after the
publication date. The newspaper info may be "public domain", but Mary's
own original compilation of the data is most likely under copyright.
It's a tricky issue.
One thing I'm planning to do with the Schuyler Marriage & Death book is
to put (on-line) an index of the surnames appearing in the book...that
way people could check to see if a surname of interest is in the book
before they buy it. Look-ups from the index are usually no problem at
all.
