There is a THORP WM 149 BEN
in Benton in the 1810 census. See
http://www.linkny.com/~history/1810.htm which gives:
INDEX

1810 CENSUS ONTARIO & STEUBEN COUNTIES (PART)
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following list includes the names of all heads of households in the
Ontario County towns of Benton, Jerusalem, Middlesex and Naples; and in the
Steuben County towns of Reading and Wayne. Thus all the area of modern Yates
County is covered, plus parts of parent towns now in other counties.
Barrington was part of Wayne; "old" Benton included the modern town, plus
Milo and Torrey; Italy was part of Naples; Middlesex and Potter were both
included in the 1810 town of Middlesex; and Starkey was part of Reading.
Thus many householders listed below lived in parts of their towns that never
became part of Yates County.

A map is available showing town boundaries in 1810.

On each line the name of the householder is listed, surname first, followed
by a page number from the National Archives microfilm of the respective
county, and a three-letter abbreviation denoting the town.
