Here are some more idea for you to consider:

Nonfiction:
A History of NYS by Ellis, Frost, Syrett and Carman is good. it was
published by the Cornell University Press in cooperation with NYS
Historical Association.

Blake McKelvey wrote a great deal about the Rochester area.

Father Robert F McNamara wrote about the Diocese of Rochester. Anything he
wrote is excellent.
