Here's a suggestion....
Contact a local Boy Scout Troop or Council office and see if there are any
of the older scouts looking for an Eagle Project. To become an Eagle Scout
they must plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project
helpful to any religious institution, school, or their community. The
project must benefit an organization other than the Boy Scouts. They have
to write up what the project will be and get approvals before starting.
Old cemetery cleanups, recording tombstones, etc. have been valid projects
in the past. (It may also get them interested in genealogy!)
Good luck,

Asst. Scoutmaster.

For anyone with ancestors in Maple Grove or who can volunteer their time for
a worthy project:
I recently visited the Maple Grove Cemetery & reviewed the book listing
those who have died, death year and plot number. The listing is located in
a binder in the office portion of a shed. In talking with Jim King, it
appears he would be interested in having someone type up this information so
that it is accessible via internet. He had someone working on the project
briefly, however that person is no longer able to continue.
While there are quite a few pages in the book, they are organized
alphabetically and do not contain a great deal of information, therefore I
don't think it would be too tremendous of an undertaking for a volunteer.
Unfortunately, I live out of state & am unable to do this myself.
If this sounds like it may be of interest to you, please call Jim King at
Maple Grove Cemetery at (315) 539-0810.
Thanks!
