Hi, Zo Newell here, in Nashville TN. I am actively searching for any
accounts of life in the 148th vols, as I am beginning to work on a piece of
historical fiction concerning my ancestor John Claffy, who began as
regimental musician in Co. H. He mustered out as a corporal.
I understand the state library in Albany has a collection of correspondence
from Henry J. Peck of the 148th, Co. I, which among other topics discuss his
involvement with the company band. Is there anyone on this list who is
descended from Henry J. Peck or who has seen this collection? Is there
anyone (you can email me off-list if you like) who would be willing to go to
Albany and take copious notes?
They also have the papers of John L. Houck, a musician with the 25th NY
infantry, the 140th, and the 44th. I have the same question - any
descendants, buffs, or people with enough time on their hands to go to
Albany?
John Lazarlere? Do you have any input?
I know I may eventually have to just go myself, but at this distance, and
with my current responsibilities, it can't be any time real soon. There's
no harm in asking...
Thanks!
