Hi Marilyn. I checked my database on information drawn from the
History and Directory of Yates Co., NY, published in 1873 in Penn Yan, NY,
and there was a mention made of a man named Hiram Hibbard in it, but no
dates were connected to him, only that he was a son of Nathaniel G. Hibbard
and Mary Bitley. No dates were provided for Nathaniel either, but Mary
Bitley was probably born in Moreau, Saratoga Co., New York, the daughter of
Henry Bitley and Mary Donaldson, and Mary was the sister of Peter H. Bitley,
about whom a biographical sketch and photo appear in the history. Hiram was
also said to have married Ellen Owen, and in 1869-73, they were said to have
been residents of Muskegon, Muskegon Co., Michigan. There's no record of
their children, if any, in this history. This doesn't look like YOUR Hiram,
but perhaps he was married more than once. You can see more about the
family on my website at http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~bbunce77
where I also have links to other sources of information on Yates Co., NY.
Also have you checked the US governement website at
http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System for Hiram
Hibbard, to see what unit he may have served in? By the way, there is a
record of another Hibbard family in the history as well, the family of
William Philo and Betsey (Townsend) Hibbard, but there's no information
connecting that family to the one of Nathaniel G. Hibbard, but since the
county was small and never had a large population, it's likely were related
somehow. Good luck. bb
