Subject: [NYFINGERLAKES] Cayuga and Regional History Research Week
Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 13:47:28 -0500

There is preliminary discussion going on of having a week in the summer
dedicated to historical and family research. Many people travel to do
research on their origins. I would like to get feedback on the
following. Problem is finding a time when all the village, town and
county offices are open.

1- Would it be a help to know that if you travel long distance to Cayuga
County to know that for a particular week or weekend that the small
historical societies and museums would be open for that week?

2- Would it be a help to have the County Clerk and County Historians'
offices open on the weekend of that week? And the same for Town Clerk
and Town Historians offices. Or can you get your work done during the week?

3- When and if you traveled to this area would you stay in a hotel or RV
park?

4- What week or weekend is best? Forth of July? The week of the Wheat
Harvest Festival?

5- Would it be good to organize this week around an event, or events,
that the other members of your family would be interested in? I just
spoke to a friend who loves doing historical research but her husband
would rather be at a Jazz Festival?

6- Should this be a county thing of just Cayuga County or a regional
event of Cayuga, Seneca, Onondaga, Wayne and Tompkis counties? OR
should it be a state-wide event?

Any other thoughts and suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

Bill Hecht
