Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2, for Benjamin V. Wiggans,
65 of Rossie, from his home with the Rev. W. H. Campbell, pastor of the
Rossie Presbyterian church officiating. Mr. Wiggans passed away at his
home at 2:05 Monday afternoon. He had not been well for about four years,
suffering from a heart ailment.
He was born, May 16, 1882 at Cleveland, Ohio. He was married twice. His
first wife being Lydia Hazelton of Rossie. Three daughters were born to
this union. The marriage was dissolved and he later married Miss Margaret
Laidlaw of Rossie, on Dec. 31, 1925. She was a daughter of the late John
and Julia A. Dillenback Laidlaw, early settlers at Rossie. Mrs. Wiggans
died Feb. 6, 1942.
For a number of years Mr. Wiggans was an interior decorator in New York.
Following his marriage to Miss Laidlaw, they opened an antique shop at
their home in Rossie. A daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Mathusz and her son, Don
Mathusz came to live with Mr. Wiggans following the death of his wife.
He is survived besides Mrs. Mathusz, by two other daughters Mrs. Rosina
Lannie of Brooklyn, and Mrs. Virginia Galetz of Manhattan, two grandchildren,
and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wiggans had served in Rossie as town welfare officer, school trustee,
and O.P.A. Board member.
Interment was made in the Riverside cemetery at Rossie.
