I'm looking for some direction with regards to land records of St. Lawrence County. There is an island south of the town of Morrisburg, Ontario by the name of 'Murphy's Island'. An historical atlas of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry shows this island as 'Monk's Island', a surname that is of interest to me. I would guess the name and ownership changed mid-1800's. The island is in american waters of the St. Lawrence although my 'Monk' family would have been residents of Williamsburg, Ontario since the late 1700's.

Any help in how I might uncover this mystery would be appreciated.
