Amable and Delima show up on the 1881 Canadian census which is indexed and online at www.familyhistory.org. I searched 'amable hooper' which returned many 'mables' and 'mabels' and at end of list 'amable'.

The 1880 US census is on line at the same site and Amable is not listed on it so I would believe he was in Quebec in 1880. The 1870 census for St. Lawrence county is indexed and online at the county site underusgenweb but he is not listed there (he may have been in Franklin county).

There are usgenweb sites for many counties and you may find more info at the Franklin county site. Start at www.usgenweb.org, click on 'state's pages' then work your way to NY, then county of interest.
