Hi

There is a new Book about the Loomis Gang written By E. Fuller Torrey, M.D.,
but I do not think it is available yet. The Title is "The Rise and Fall of
the Loomis Gang". I am not aware of them being in St Lawrence County, but I do
know that they traveled the Onieda County/Madison County Area. They were in
the Sangerfield Area just outside the City of Utica. And it appears that they
probably followed the path of RR for their Train Robberies. They are found at
Thedora RR Station outside of Old Forge also. You find Loomis Family members
who migrated into Oswego County (probably descendants or Family Relative from
CT) and that might be their connection with Tug Hill Area. My former
father-in-law was a friend of one of the descendants, they grew up together in Ellisburg
Area (Jefferson Co) and later worked at the RR Express in Syracuse NY
together.

Here is an interesting URL http://www.borg.com/~wpl/loomis2.htm that
tells about a murder by a member of their Gang. My interest in this Family
stemmed from my Crandall Ancestry.

You will great deal more information on the Loomis Gang in the Count Archives
and Local Town Archives in these Counties (Oneida/Madison etc) that would
help you find a connection. Waterville Public Library has some information.and
you might want to follow the Land Records at the Oneida County Courthouse on
property that they owned.

Pat R
