Star Lake- Leland W. Towne, 74, Oswegatchie Trail, formerly of Newton Falls, died Thursday night at Clifton-Fine hospital.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Hawley Funeral Home with Rev. James Keesel, pastor of the Oswegatchie First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oswegatchie cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Masonic service will be conducted by Lodge No. 687, F & A.M., at 8 p.m. Sunday. Donations may be made in his memory to the Star Lake Rescue Squad.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Shirley) Aston, Buffalo, and Mrs. Robert ( Della) Kuhn, Star Lake; a son, Richard, Newton Falls; nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Born in Fine on July 2 1911, son of Elmer and Della Baxter Towne, he married Helen Kathleen Evans on July 4, 1934, at Newton Falls. She died in June 1955.
Mr. Towne was employed at the Newton Falls Paper Co. as a beater engineer for 38 years, retiring in 1976. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge No. 687, Fine, the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Norwood and 32nd Degree Consistory Valley of Syracuse.
