I saw your other post on the Charter family, that stated that Purley's father was Loren Charter. I checked for a Loren and Purley in the MN census.

I found on that index:

Purley Frank Charter born 4/03/1887 died 1/19/1977 Ramsey Co., MN.

Loren Charter died 3/26/1929 Blue Earth Co., MN

The death records for these two and their obituaries would probably shed some light on this family.

Looking at the St. Lawrence Co., NY census I found a:

1880 Macomb, district 2, St. Lawrence Co., NY, age 345A
Loren Charten, age 18, servant, born NY, parents born NY, living with the John Washburn family.

From the 1870 and 1880 census, there appears to be only a couple of Charter families in the Gouverneur and Macomb area that Loren may be related to.
