Hello
You might want to check the 1870, 1880 and 1900 US Census for St Lawrence
County.
In 1880 it states that Charles B Abt 1838 (Rough Carpenter) was living in
Heuvelton, St Lawrence County NY and he was 42 years of Age. His wife Polly (who
probably was Mary-Polly is a nickname for Mary) is 41 years of Age. At this
time there is 6 children living with them.
Bertie Age 15
John Age 8
Albert Age 7
Jennie Age 5
Freddie Age 4
Minnie Age 1
It also States that Charles was B in Canada Polly was B in Canada and that
Charles F was B in NY and his mother in Canada.
However in the 1870 Census it shows Charles and Polly living in Heuvelton NY
and with 2 children
George B Age 5 (No doubt this is Bertie)
Mary A Age 11 months . Mary does not appear with them in 1880 and therefore
I would guess that she died sometime within this 10 year period. Perhaps you
might want to check the Heuvelton Church Records (all churches) at your local
LDS Library and see if you find a Baptismal and/or DOD for her.
In 1900 Charles is living in Lisbon NY with wife Polly and daughter Minnie
who is now 20 and there is an additional Son Jessie/Jesse who is 13 years of age
living with them. Charles is 62 and Polly is 61 at this time.
At this time it states that Polly was B in Canada but her Parents were B in
Germany. Previous stated they were B in Canada also. But this could just be
the ethnic backgrouind of both parents. The Census are not always that
accurate when it comes to the B place of parents. So one must broaden their search
scope. I would suggest you check for a Marriage and Death Certificate for B of
these people and compare the information for further leads. Ontario Canada
would be a logical place to look after you get more information on them in the
USA.
Good Luck
Warm Regards
Pat R
