Message Board Post:

There are a couple of sites of old newspapers searchable by OCR (optical character recognition).

One is at: http://www.fultonhistory.com/Fulton.html

The other: http://news.nnyln.net/

The 'oldfultonhistory' site is not working today (11/15/06) but the site creator expects to have it back up within a few days.

The NNYLN (Northern NY Library Network site) is working and I did find an obit for a family member:

Sunday Jan 1, 1961 Ogdensburg Advance, page 15 has obit of Mrs. Josephine Bell Robinson, widow of James
and dau of Mahala Boyington Bell. Born 1875 and died 1960.

It is a full obit - I'm just condensing for this response.

When you search, I would recommend the 'boolean' search type. For ex. 'bell w/4 davidson' means 'search for the word bell within 4 words of davidson'. Jemimah is such an unusual name you can do an 'all word' search for that.

At the Fulton site one search box covers all the publications. At NNYLN, you have to search each paper individually.

Hope this helps -
