I would like contact with anyone who has knowledge of a JOHN TURNBULL
[born Scotland 1801] and his family who resided and farmed in the town of
MADRID & WADDINGTON, NY after c1835 until his death in 1881.
I believe this is the family buried in the Waddington "Scotch Cemetery":
John TURNBULLdied August 29, 1881, AE 80 yrs, 6 mos, 15 da
Jane TURNBULLhis wife, died Dec 10, 1865 AE 45 yrs, 7 mos
Children of John & Jane:

2. Isabella TURNBULLdied Sept 15, 1867 AE 22? yrs, 6 mos
3. George TURNBULLdied April 15, 1873 AE 27 yrs, 2 mos, 4 da

6. Lavina TURNBULLdied April 12, 1872 AE 15 yrs, 7 mos
7. Christian TURNBULLdied May 6, 1863 AE 2 yrs, 2 mos
According to St. Lawrence County Land Records, I learned the following:
JOHN TURNBULL from Hawick, Roxboroughshire, Scotland arrived in
Rossie, NY in 1819 and purchased 50 acres of land [easterly half of Farm
#13] on the Ogdensburgh Turnpike Road [between Rossie and Oxbow] in
the "Roxbury Settlement" [more commonly known as the "Scotch
Settlement"] from David Parish on June 17, 1819. Five years later, on
October 1, 1824 he sold this 50 acres back to David Parish and, on the
same date, purchased a different 50 acres [Farm #16] from Parish; also
located on the Ogdensburgh Turnpike Road. Eight years later, on
January 1, 1832 John Turnbull sold this 50 acres to William Robson
[or Robinson] of Sepedin, Roxburgh, Scotland. John Turnbull then moved
to Madrid, NY [45 miles northeast of Rossie] and on February 10, 1835
purchased land from Joshua Waddington described as lot #17 in the town
of Madrid, NY. In 1839,1846, 1847, 1848, 1852, 1853, 1860, 1868, 1869 &
1873 John Turnbull [or apparent members of his family] bought more land
from Joshua Waddington and others in the town of Madrid, NY. On an 1858
map of St. Lawrence County a "J. Turnbull farm" is shown southwest of
Waddington, south of the "J. S. Rutherford farms". On an 1865 map of
St. Lawrence County, a farm shown as #27 was shown as belonging to
"J. Turnbull".
I would welcome hearing from anyone with knowledge or information on
JOHN TURNBULL (1801-1881) and his family who farmed in the
Madrid/Waddington, NY area for almost 50 years after 1832, until his
death in 1881.
