You have done a lot of research for my sake. Thank you.

The older Mary in 1860 is William's mother. I don't know her maiden name.
Family legend says she was Mary Elizabeth ? I don't know if that is true
because the 1860 census and her grave stone just says Mary. I also don't
know William's wife, Permelia's maiden name. I sure would like to find both
of them one day.

In 1880 William is listed as head of household, but Orson and his wife and
children are the only ones in the household. You are correct about Mary
being a family name. Orson's daughter, sister and grandmother are named
Mary.

I have not found any further information about the Mary born about 1837
after the 1850 census. I don't know if she married or if she died as a
young woman.

The Melissa in the 1850 census married Walter Barker and they had at least 3
children. I have followed them through the census and found their grave
stones thanks to Anne Cady.

I would love so much to be able to put a date to Martha P. Carr. I will try
that 1855 NY census, although I tend to think as you do. She was born and
died between the 1840 and 1850 census.

Thanks again for your help

Leslie
