Thank you very much for all your help. You have done a very thorough job of tracking the Altz family. I have also found the Amos Altz family in 1900 (Manhattan) and 1910 (Brooklyn). I have not yet found Amos Altz' parents. I will be interested to hear if you find them. I believe that Leroy's given name was actually Amos; I have written to NYC for his birth record to verify this.
I will try to find Jean's obituary in a Smithtown paper so that I can learn the names of her next-of-kin at the time of her death. I understand that Jean's daughter may not have been allowed to stay in contact with her Downs grandparents after her mother's death. I would like very much to find her and let her know more about her mother's family history.
