I was at Mangawhai at 7:30 this morning, to set up for the day's
market. Fine to start with, but the black sky to the west caught up
with us by the time we were unloading the van. Cold, too.

Chilly and wet all day at the market (which closed at 1pm). Heard
thunder at one stage, and someone mentioned there was hail which I
hadn't seen. The sun did come out for five minutes!

And then it started pouring as we were packing up, so everything got wet
while we were loading the van again. Of course, by the time I was back
in Kaiwaka it had stopped again.

Since I've been home (4pm as I type) it has hailed twice and rained
frequently. I wasn't so cold when I got in, having been moving about
shifting market stuff to and from the van, but put the gas heater on
anyway, on low, to heat up and dry out. But now I am sitting down I'm
cold, the heater needs to be on a higher setting - but I've got a
heffalump on my knee (Persian cat named Joseph) and I don't want to turf
him off just to get up and adjust the heater. I'm going to have to in a
moment, though.

... Okay, so I just did that and turned the heater up. That's better!
And I checked the temperature gauge in the bathroom (on the south side
of the house) while I was at it, and that says it's 11C at the moment.
That's the inside, unassisted temperature. The Google gadget on my
laptop says it's 8C in Auckland at the moment, which is an hour's drive
south of here, and that sounds about right.

Graham, your fire-warmed house sounds divine just now! May I come and
visit? I can be there in an hour! ;-)
