newspaper_article: Obituary-From the Lima Times Democrat- 23 Dec, 1907
Mr. Andrew J. Mell was born in Allen County, Ohio July 15, 1838, and died at
his home , one mile west of West Cairo, December 20, 1907, aged 69 years, 5
months and 5 days. Mr. Mell was united in marriage to Nancy A. Miller,
December 10, 1863. To them were born five children, three of which, with the
mother, have preceded him in the spirit land. Mr Mell was again united in
marriage to Elizabeth Morris, June 14, 1874. To this union were born eight
children, one daughter having preceded him to the be better world. Mr Mell
leaves a devoted wife, five sons and four daughters: also, nineteen
grandchildren and many friends to mourn their loss.
At the age of 25 years he united with the West Cairo Christian Church and
was baptized under the labors of Elder Michael Martz, and lived a devoted
Christian life until death. He was unable to attend service during the last
four years on account of ill health. He was a great sufferer from a
complication of diseases contracted while in the line of duty in the service
of his country, having served in Company D, 118th Ohio Volunteers: on account
of ill health he was honorably discharged. He endured all his suffering with
that Christian fortitude that characterized the children of God. He died
trusting in the God he loved.
Mr Mell was a quite man, peaceable neighbor, a loving husband and a kind and
devoted father. Having told his dear ones around his bedside good-bye, he
said he was ready to take that long, last rest, and closed his eyes in sleep,
only to awake in that better world.
Funeral services, were conducted at the West Cairo Christian Church, Sunday,
at 10 A.M. by Rev. C. J. Hanee, of Spencerville, O., assisted by Rev. W. H.
Thompson, pastor. Interment was made in the cemetery west of the village
