In most cases the fee charged is for copies, not labor. I agree that an
unprofessional attitude on the part of a county clerk is uncalled for. I
also think a wait of a year is unreasonable, unless the request entailed
a massive search or required some extensive service. We, as users of the
system, should also keep in mind that certain institutions have times of
the year when they are especially busy. In the fall clerks across the
country are preparing to certify the tax rolls and putting the mailing
list together for mailing of real estate bills. In addition most clerks
prepare certification of budgets in the fall for the new year budgets.
In most states the clerk is very busy attending to statutory
requirements in the fall. No excuse for rudeness, but as users of the
system we need to respect that not everybody can be available when we
want them to be.

While I have waited over a year for some records, that were provided at
no
cost, I think most people are missing the point.
She is a customer and is not expecting something for free. The check was
sent for services rendered and this has not happened.
The County Clerks office is there to serve the public and charges a
fee
for those services . The attitude is uncalled for in a public office. I
hope the clerk was just having a bad day.
I have been very lucky with my dealing County Clerks offices through out
the
U.S. and have never encountered this reluctance to provide services.

I have sent 3 requests in to the above for copies of vital records {
since
September } & have gotten nothing back . I called a few days ago and
she
said they are not concerned with genealogy right now & she didnt know
when
they would get to it . It shouldn't make any difference how old the
record
is .
I sent a check in for a request of a vital record & evidentally they do
their job whenever ? Is anyone else having this problem . This is
ridiculous
. Tomorrow I start making calls . Starting with the Govenors office
then
the Attourney Generals office & whoever else it takes to straighten out
the
attitude in that office . Most County Clerks get things out within 2
weeks
max .

If anyone else has this happen I suggest you do the same Two months
wait
for a vital record from any County Clerks office is ridiculous .
