I do not know if we have a specific connection, for I have two
Shaughnessy families. I believe are connected one begins with a Norman
Hamilton, NY, who has two Shaughnessy girls Mary and Margaret, b.
Askeaton, Co. Limerick, who married in 1851 to two of his Cregan line,
either in Utica NY or in Ireland. As far as I can tell these two
Shaughnessy's tie into my John Joseph Shaughnessy, b. 10 Jul 1845, Co.
Limerick, who is the son of a Michael O'Shaughnessy, b. abt. 1816,
Ireland, and Ann, b. abt. 1818.
My grandmother is the daughter of John Joseph, Elizabeth Shaughnessy, b.
6 Sep 1882-1888, Utica NY. And I am pretty sure Michael Shaughnessy is
the brother to Mary and Margaret Shaughnessy of Co. Limerick. So I feel
my Shaughnessy's come from the same County.
I see that Glin is 15 miles from Askeaton, and your John O'Shaughnessy
dates go back to 1841. There can be a slight chance of a connection,
also I have Begnal's from Co. Meath or Co. Westmeath 1847, who after
coming to America some went to CT and mine went to Albany NY....and
there is a possibility yours besides going to MA, I see some died in
NY...I have another Shaughnessy, John Franklin who in 1918, lived at 321
St. Nicholas Ave., New York City, that married Katharine Prior, 11 Feb
1901, NYC
