Hi group. You are doing a wonderful job, Eleanor.
Maybe we should start over with an open mind on these two Ozments and forget
family bibles and tradition for now and go strictly with documentation right
now. We will forget about the Jr. and the Sr. part also and just go with what
the records say.
Lamar White of Utah has probably done more documented research on these early
Ozments than anyone. Here is what he wrote in 1972:

James b 1793
Richard b 1800
Alfred b 1805

We have not been able to find definite proof of the parents of these three
brothers. They all listed their place of birth as North Carolina in the U.S.
Census records. The only Ozment listed in North Carolina in the 1790 census
was John Ozment. At that time he had one son under 16 years of age and a wife
and three daughters. These children would all have been born before James,
Richard, and Alfred.
The first definite record we have of this family is in Wilson County,
Tennessee, where James and Rebecca married sisters, Rebecca and Elizabeth
Eddins (or Eddings), the daughters of William and Rebecca Chandler Eddins.
There was a Rachel Ozment who married Robert Shannon in Wilson County in 1811
and Polly Ozment who married Hallam Sullivan in 1814. These could well be two
of the sisters of James, Richard and Alfred. We hope with further research we
will be able to identify the parents in North Carolina records.

This is really the starting point on this branch for now.
I hope to hear from the others, to add/detract/correct this.
Sincerely,
Lon Martin
