Full Text of obituary appearing in a July 2003 issue of the Winston-Salem NC Journal. Repeated at Fowler Message Board along with her husband's obituary--
"Mrs. Julia Quattlebaum Fowler, 98, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the Piedmont Nursing Center in [Greer,] South Carolina. She was born May 24, 1905, in Saluda County to Charles Albert and Julia Rebecca Barr Quattlebaum. Mrs. Fowler was a graduate of Furman University, with additional studies at Winthrop College, UNC at Greensboro and UNC at Chapel Hill. She taught piano and was supervisor of public school music at Woodruff, S.C., in the high school and grammar school. She taught piano [sic] and was director of music at Mills Home Baptist Orphanage in Thomasville. In Forsyth County, [NC,] she taught at City View, South Fork, and Lewisville schools. For many years, she had a private piano studio and sponsored the Ardmore Music Club in Winston-Salem. Her greatest desire was to train and encourage her students to become church musicians. She was a charter member and past president of the Winston-Salem Professional Piano Teachers Association, National Fede!
ration of Music Clubs, Thursday A.M. Music Club, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Mrs. Fowler was a charter member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she was piano and church organist for 25 years. Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ansel [Earl] Fowler. Surviving are a daughter, Sarah Rebecca Hill, and husband, Elijah R. Hill; two grandchildren, Julie Davis of Pfafftown and Ruth Parenteau and husband Leonard, of Kernersville; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 2 pm. Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Steve McCutchan officiating. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from i7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church Music Fund, 2380 Cloverdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103."
