In answer to Marian's questions - There is a small village of Lindaunis
and a city of Schleswig. Both are in Kreis (County)
Schleswig-Flensburg. I have been to both of them.Lindaunis is not an
area of the town of Schleswig, but a separate town. If you go to the
Schleswig-Holstein World GenWeb page on the internet, you will find many
addresses. You could write for your brother-in-law's birth cert. which
might give additional family information. I would suggest you write to
the main county archive:
Kreisarchiv Schleswig-Flensburg
Waitzstr. 1 - 3
24937 Flensburg
Germany
This site also gives addresses for genealogical societies which might be
helpful. There is also a large archive in Stuttgart, where you could
write for his father's death cert. I did not have time to look up the
address, but I'm sure you can find it on the internet or in any good
book on German genealogy. When writing to Germany, be sure to enclose 3
international reply coupons, which you can buy at your post office.
Hope this is some help. Ruth Rasc
