That sure didn't come out very good -- will try again.
I read with interest the above titled posting. What does "Rathjen" mean? On
my ggrandmother's tombstone it reads:
Maria M. Herzberg
RATHJENSDORF
Holstein
Dec 12, 1864
April 8, 1907
I assumed it referred to the place she was born, but when I read that
posting, it made me wonder. Does it refer to a place of is it the name of
somebody/something? She immigrated abt 1885.
On her mother-in-law's tombstone it says Maria GEBORENE Schultz. On the 1860
US census, it says she was born in Mecklenburg. I assume it refers to her
birth name being Schultz. I'm not sure when she immigrated, but she married
my gggrandfather in July 1856 in Iowa USA.
thanks for any help.
