Dear AJ, My ggrandfather was Asmus Stoltenberg. He and his wife
Dorothea Wiese came from around Stackendorf, Schleswig Holstein in
1864. They were married in Davenport, Iowa August 3, 1864. Asmus was
naturalized in Scott County, Iowa Feb.16-1870. They lived in that area
until 1876 when Asmus and some other men went to Ida County, Iowa to
improve and break the land which a group of men had purchsed from the
Northwestern Railroad. Asmus stayed and his family joined him.
Asmus' sister Silke Katherin married Joach8im Brockmann in
Davenport on Nov.8, 1855.
Asmus' parents Margaretha (Rethwisch) and Hans Stoltenberg along
with their daughters Antje and Helene came to the US in 1872. They must
have stayed for a while in Davenport and their daughter Helen was
married Dec. 17, 1877 in Walcott, Iowa to Christian Frederich Ihms. I
do not know what happen to Antje. She was six years older than Asmus and
evidently never married or was a widow when she came to the US.
Anyway, do your lists of Stoltenbergs show any of these people? Donna
