Subject: [S-H-RTS] Direct and indirect ship passenger lists
Date: Sun, 12 Dec 1999 18:26:44 EST
My PULS ancestors left their home in Bordesholm, S-H in May 1872 and boarded
a packet steamer in Hamburg for Hull, England. They took a boat train from
Hull to Liverpool and boarded the Oceanic of the White Star Line for New
York. My grand uncle Otto Puls recorded this great information in his journal
so I was able to order the May 1972 shipboard passenger list of the Oceanic
from the National Archives. I also found them on the May 1872 Hamburg
Passport Application List film at an LDS - FHL. The indirect Hamburg list
said they were from Kiel and the Oceanic ship board passenger list said they
were from Denmark. Neither was correct. These family records are nice to have
but they may not be quite correct enough to always help a person's
researching.
