Hi Fellow Listers,
This past week, I have been viewing microfilm of Langenhorn Church Records. I have not been sure what type of records these were. They are from 1763 to 1839. These records appear to have 4 witnesses to whatever event it is. I copied the title page and showed it to my father and he says that they are engagements. So, I began wondering. Back in the late 1700's, were marriages arranged between two families and stated to a church with witnesses?
Does anyone know about this?
Thanks!
Karin
