Subject: [S-H-RTS] Prussian KUNAU surname and "Kunau, (Konowo, Pila, Poland)"Related?
Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000 16:38:32 EDT
I am searching for information re: Arnold KUNAU, born in 1879 in Lyons,
Iowa to parent's Siegfred Kunau of Loheide and Kunigunde FELDMANN of
Langeness, Schles-Holstein, Preussen.
I found a map of Poland today on the Paprocki family's genealogy site
after seeing a reference on the list to "dogpile.com". Thinking it a joke at
first, I was surprised when I actually found the "dogpile.com" site. I did a
search for "KUNAU Prussia" and was hopefully expecting some KUNAU "kin" .
However, I found instead, a location called "Konowo (Kunau), Pila, Poland"
Is it possible that the surname KUNAU originated in the area of Poland
that I found today? "Konowo (Kunau), on the southern shore of the lake
(between Badecz and Lobzencia (Lobsens). . . . is about 2 km east of Blugowo.
The north shore of the lake was in West Prussia in the 1800's." "The names
in parentheses are the Old German names for each town."
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowledge of the area or the
origin of surnames in Prussia. Thanks so much.
Karen
