Subject: [S-H-RTS] Killings in the 1880???

Just received a letter from a relative that stated that my great-granddad
came over to the States because young boys were being killed. Christen
Pedersen was born in Schleswig-Holstein (town unknown) about 1861-1863 and
this particular person said he was smuggled aboard a ship when he was about
12-13 years old.

Does anyone know these killings actually happened or was something confused
with something else?
