Subject: [SCHLESWIG-HOLSTEIN-ROOTS] Our Daily Bread

I just received the above book written by MS. Scheer. While out doing
errands with my daughter, I read parts of it and the history it offers. I,
for one, like to read about their times because they have to be looked at in
the mores, rules and laws of their times to understand who they were. My
family is first found in Steinkirchen in the 1600's, and in the present day,
they are in Hamburg. They migrated to Hamburg from Borstel. I have been
lucky enough to have been "found" by a cousin two years ago.

I have a question on Marriage and illegitimacy. For specific's, My great
grandmother, Anna Margaretha Hamm married Johann Schulz and produced
Dorothea Schulz. Dorothea married Heinrich Köpke in 1881 and they
eventually moved to the US he in 1885, and she in 1886. Henry and Dorothea
are the parents of my Dad also Henry.

Anna Margaretha Hamm was the product of an affair between Peter Hamm and
Anna Sophia Pahlen. Anna was married at the time to August Hoffman. They
lived in Gluckstadt and which also contained a military garrison. This
information was found when looking for Dorothea's birth record in. Anna
Margaretha Hamm eventually married Johann Schulz. Dorothea's record
contained a notation that her mother was a product of an affair between
Peter Hamm, and Anna Sophia Phalen. I have been unable to locate any more
information on Peter, Anna, or August Hoffman, Anna Sophia's husband.
Anna Margaretha was born in 1811, and eventually married Johann Schulz.

What records would I have to look for to find out what happened to these
three people Peter Hamm, Anna Sophia Phalen and August Hoffman? I have no
information on who raised Anna Margaretha, and what eventually happened to
the other three. How would I go about that, and what records should I be
checking to find out. I know she was dead by the time her daughter,
Dorothea was married in 1881 in Hamburg. So far I have not been able to
locate any siblings for Dorothea either.

If there was a punishment for Anna Sophia, would there be a record of it,
would August Hoffman have divorced her, would there be a record of that
divorce? What would have happened to Peter Hamm? Got away scott free as we
say? How in the world would they find out that it is not the child of
August Hoffman? Where did Hoffman go? At this point I don't know either
if Dorothea had siblings. Dorothea was married in Hamburg, born in Ottensen.
