Although there is a lot of interesting data on the 1900 census, you must
still view it with question as you would any other information. Often
people lied about their ages particularly women, and sometimes another
family member gave the info and it wasn't correct at all. A good example
was my father's sister. Her mother put the correct info in the 1900
census record, but my aunt gave the info for the 1910 census. She changed
birth dates, and her own place of birth in Germany. She said she was born
in NY. However, she was five and a half when she landed in the US. I also
have her German birth record.
Another factor was the fact that her husband, and her children were unaware
of her proper age nor her place of birth. One son died without knowing the
truth, and the other who died four years ago at 87 did know through my
research. Information on records can be incorrect. Accuracy in what we
collect is important Right now she is in two records in Ancestry, one
correct, and the other with the spurious information. I know the family,
who was the second family after my Aunt died, and he won't change it.
Second families often have different information and often inaccurate with
regard to the first wife.

I have found the early 1900 census forms to be very helpful, but as you say
- that are so many potential look-ups. The information I have so far came
from another family member long ago. I had good success confirming that
type of information with baptismal records in other parts of my family and
I'm hoping to do the same here. I still need to check familysearch.org to
see if any local church records were microfilmed in that area.
I am just starting my BIELENBERG research have not contacted other related
families yet. Claus BIELENBERG and two brothers came to America and settled
in Dodge County, Minnesota. Claus eventually moved further north to
Washington County, Minnesota. It is possble that they spent some time in
Iowa or have other relatives there.
Thanks,
John
