Hi list members,
I had magnificent help from this list when it first started and they helped set me in the right direction to find my GORDON family in Reach and Scott Townships in Ontario County 1885 onwards. The family married and spread outwards to neighbouring counties and new names came into the family Campbell, Tough, Ewen, Reid, McLauchlan. Sherry was brilliant in sorting out the families in the 1881 census.... Toughs were filed under TOYAH, Ewens under WINN. More recently someone has entered the URL for the 1911 automated census. Thank you very much. For we, who have done our main research and are now more lurkers, new sites are always welcome and keep us topping up our files.

My attempt was to find out why my HOWIE great great grandmother went to Canada with only one of her children and the others were spread around the world.. two came to New Zealand and one stayed in Canada [all under 10 years of age]. It turned out on her remarriage, she married a man with ten children of his own, and it is they who went to Canada and settled first in Reach township and then Scott. The couple had five more children to his ten and her four. This is the family of GORDONS I have traced in Ontario County. Along with Gordon descendants we have been able to piece together the family except MARY GORDON born Reach / Brock / Scott Twps Ontario County ca 1863. She is in the 1881 census as Marey J Gordon Female 18 Scottish born Ontario County. Her parents were John GORDON and Jane/Jean HOWIE / HUIE

I would love it if any one found a clue about her

Bobbie
New Zealand

Ps I might be able to help any one on this list who had ancestors that came from Applecross, Ross-shire, Scotland
