The older generations of McDowells did not move west. My Grandfather
Charles Wesley first moved to Upper Michigan and later homesteaded in
Sask around 1908 or 09. But my g-grandparents were buried in the area
of Thessalon, Algoma. Also gg-grandmother Walker in same cemetery.
With a lot of searching we found these stones in an abandoned
cemetery. John Sr., John Jr., Charles, William and Robert were born in
Ireland and probably came in late 1820s to 1830s. They were in 1861
census of Marmora/Lake township and 1871. In 1881 they were in
Thessalon, Algoma.

The oldest of Charles Sr. children was born about 1845 listed as age 16
in the 1861 census born in Ontario.

I have found one death certificate of a John McDowell in the Marmora
township, but cannot account for the other. He died 1880 est birth
1817. So I have not found a death of Sr. who must have born in the
late 1700s.

Thanks for any help someone might be able to give.

Alice
