I am a new member to this list and am not familiar with information posted
before this time.
I am descended from John C. Smith s/o James Smith and Matilda Akers of
Montgomery County, Va.
John C. Smith was married twice.. I do not have the maiden name of his
first wife, she was Mary J.___? They had a daughter, Elizabeth J. Smith,
who married Daniel H. Sledd in Montgomery County, Va. Aug. 25 th 1874.
On this marriage license, Elizabeth J. Smith states her place of birth as
Texas
Age 21= b.1853..
John C. Smith married 2nd time Montgomery County, Va. April 13, 1864 to
Evaline Hall d/o Thomas Hall. John C. Smith and Evaline H. Smith moved to
washington county, Va. and had several children..
Question: When and Why did John C. Smith go to Texas. Did his1st wife die
in Texas or back in Montgomery co. Va.. Or overseas, as one story states..
Is there a person on this list who might be connected to this line of
