Hi, At the risk of wearing out my welcome I would like to repost my brick
wall.
I'm looking for birth & marriage records of William Coats(or maybe Coots)
SMITH. He was born abt 1803. He was in Burlington Co. NJ in 1833 because his
son John B SMITH listed his birthplace as Burlington CO. NJ, in his Civil
War enlistment papers.
William Coats SMITH married Sarah Jane LEMON(Leman) abt 1830, place unk. She
was born abt 1803 also. Place unk. PA?
Their other children are: William Francis,b 1840, OH, Charles S b.1836, OH.
Emily b 1842, OH. Thomas b?, Louise b.?, Martha b.?
William C was a shoemaker. then was listed as a farmer in Ohio and Illinois
It is thought they were of German decent. At one time I thought they were
Quakers but that doesn't seem to be fit. According to the book "The
Burlington Smiths" by R. Morris Smith the William C in that family died as
an infant. I have the Quaker records on order from the FHC to double check
on the book.
Would there be a business directory that lists shoemakers in the Burlington
NJ area in the early 1800s?
Would like information on the birth of John B Smith also if possible.
This is a "brick wall" so I would appreciate any thing you can find or
other suggestions on where to look.
Thank you
Steve P
