I haven't really looked beyond some cursory searches for the father of
Thomas Smith, but my first tries would be for a Drury Smith as parent,
based on naming conventions (where the first child born is named after
the father's father) and the fact that Drury is carried down in these
related lines.

Drury Smith b c 1746, son of Thomas & Elizabeth Smith
Drury Moore, b c 1813, son of David Moore (son of Mildred Witt Moore)
who married as second wife Susan Smith, son of Drury Smith. From
Portrait and Biographical Record of Buchanan Co, MO, this Drury Moore's
parentage is said to be "On the maternal side our subject's grandfather,
Drury Smith, was a native of Virginia and of German descent. Grandfather
Benjamin Moore was also a native of the Old Dominion and of Irish
parentage."
Drury Jarnagin, son of John Jarnagin and Mary Smith (dau of Thomas &
Elizabeth) born after 1778.

And finally, because there are Drury's all over the place- 2 more Drury
Smith unplaced. II. John Smith SR lived on Sandy Creek, will 1784
Pittsylvania Co, VA, had son Drury Smith. III. Drury Smith- will 1782/3
Mecklenburg CoVA -daughter Susanna Smith m 1776 to John Prior Smith-they
had child Drury Smith- see also "Heritage of Rockingham County"

Do you have anything on these Smiths??? My Thomas Smith was born in
VA....I've heard he is from the Bucks Co., PA Smith's...I've also heard
he
was the Thomas SMith of Loudon Co., VA. He left a will in Rockingham
Co., NC
in 1797. . THOMAS SMITH was born in Va ca 1725. Thomas died 1798 in
Rockingham Co., Nc, at 72 years of age.
He married ELIZABETH WITT.(We think) Elizabeth was born in Virginia
1732.
Elizabeth was the daughter of John Witt and Elizabeth Parrish.
Elizabeth
died 1810 in Nc, at 78 years of age.

Thomas Smith and Elizabeth Witt had the following children:

i. ZACHARIAH7 was born before 1767, the first event for which
there
is a recorded date. Zachariah died May 19, 1796 in Rockingham Co., NC.
He
married FRANCES MOORE 1767. Frances is the daughter of Thomas Moore.
+ 64 ii. DRURY was born 1745
iii. MARY was born 1748. Mary died 1820 in Hawkins Co., Tn, at
72
years of age. She married JOHN JARNIGAN .
iv. ELIZABETH was born December 29, 1752. Elizabeth died 1846
in
Grainger Co., Tn, at 93 years of age. She married SHERWOOD (SHERROD)
MAYS
in Guilford CO., NC, November 25, 1773. Sherwood was born 1751.
Sherwood
was the son of Henry Mays and Phoebe Harrell. Sherwood died 1834 in
Grainger Co., TN, at 83 years of age.
+ 75 v. PHOEBE was born 1761

This is a major brick wall. Anyone else with any clues, send them my
way!!!
