Subject: [SMITH] School Census Records in Ok and Red River co Tx
Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 18:12:23 -0500

I am no authority on any state. The Oklahoma school census was from abt
1912-1929. We had a County Superintendant of Schools whose had the census
records. Abt1980 the office was eliminated and whatever records are with our
County Clerks office. The McClain County OK had their school cenus records
micofilmed by the LDS and they are available the Purcell Muncipal Library.
To my knowledge, there is no other county in OK that has theirs microfilmed,
as it is the only one listed with the archive of newspapers in The Oklahoma
Historical Society Archives and Library. In Clarksville, Red River County
TX, there is no school census records before 1950 and they are available in
the Court Clerk's Office at the New Annex . There is no archived or
micorfilmed news paper from before 1950 also, The editor used the extra
copies to start fires.
