Here are some more things I know about Emma Smith Gardiner, her father, John Smith, and his parents.
His father was named Jacob Smith, and his mother was named MARY Buxton, not Ann. When I went back to the Meare records today, and focused the page better, I saw that her name was Mary. This fits with the records of the birth of their children.
In addition to John, the other children were Ann, born about 1832, Rachel, born about 1836, and Robert, also born 1836, but baptized in 1837.
John Smith's father, Jacob, had the following siblings: Esau, born about 1796; Mary, born about 1801; John, born about 1803; Elizabeth, born about 1806; Ann, born about 1809; and Susanna, born about 1811.
The parents of these children, beginning with Esau and going through Susanna, were Robert Smith and Mary Whitnel (?). I am not sure about the spelling of her name. It was very difficult to read the marriage record, but they married in 1796.
Esau Smith was married to Ann. Their children were Esau, born about 1826 and Ann, born about 1827.
In addition to Meare Parish Records, I have Census records for 1861 and 1871 about some of these people. If any of them are of interest, let me know. I will be doing more research about them.
