Hi That is interesting that your Smith married a Conant in the New England
area, but as you know, there couldn't be a more common name than Smith. By the
time your Jacob married Martha, my Josephus was in Ohio.

I have nothing on the parentage of Laura Conant. She is not mentioned in the
Conant genealogy book. She was born in Vermont in 1806. She moved to Ohio
separate from Josephus and married him there in 1824. I have other Conant's in
my tree that I am not related to. They married into my Jewett branch which
is from Massachusettes.

I think Josephus' parents are Justus Smith and Eunice Matthews from
Connecticut. No proof yet, but quite sure, as she had a son who was born on the same
day and same town as him.
