I ran across this info on the Library of Virginia site. It kind of helps
when you meet people who think they are Smiths by either name changes or
illigitimate births etc. Things like that really happen. I wonder if they
allowed the name change?
Smith, Robert Madison County 1796 12/06 asks for an act authorizing him to
change his name to Jerdine in order to inherit part of the Estate of his
friend Robert Jerdine of Great Britain. Reel# 118 Box 152 Folder
