On second thoughts, you are probably referring to piece of equipment which
resembles a larger-than-ususual seesaw. It not only swung up and down like
a seesaw, bur also rotated like a roundabout. I don't know of a name for
it, but the word "shaddle" is interesting; there was a piece of equipment
of very similar design which was used in the Middle East to raise water from
a river or other source, and was known as a "shadouf".
